Here’s your chance to get involved in the work being done on Cooper Island:

Friends of Cooper Island is initiating a “Nest-Site Sponsorship” program to help pay for nest replacement and our ongoing research on Arctic seabirds. A minimum $100 tax-deductible donation will sponsor a nest site for one year and bring you (or an individual or school group you designate) updates about the fieldwork and observations on the island, the history of the breeding birds using the sponsored site and additional site-specific information. At the end of the field season you will receive detailed information on the breeding season, the success of the colony and images of guillemot adults, eggs and young and visiting polar bears.

Interested in sponsoring a nest site? Email nanuk_site@cooperisland.org.

A special shout out goes to Nananuk Professional Protective Cases, the Canadian company which supplied the cases at cost to assist the nest-site program. In appreciation to the company and to the fact that “nanuk” is the Inuit word for polar bear, the new nest sites will be called Nanuk Nest Sites.
